Joannes' father was Cornelis van Keeken and his mother was Mechtildis Schoolmeesters.  His paternal grandparents were Albertus van Kicke and Joanna Pelgrums. He had two brothers named Jacobus and Jacobus.  He was the oldest of the three children. He had three half-brothers and six half-sisters, named Joannes, Jean, Cornelius, Maria, Joanna, Maria, Maria, Anna and Cornelia.
